Tucked away in the old doctor’s surgery adjacent to Corrie and Sannox Village Hall, The Wee Bookshop opened its doors in July. Since then Tony Burrin has been welcoming visitors and residents of Arran to this unique spot on the island. Stocked with books on walking and wildlife, mountains and maps, and all things Arran, the shelves are brimming with contemporary titles, and Tony is always on hand for a convivial chat!
But the space is home to more than a bright new book shop. It is also Tony’s office, and the idea evolved as he was working on the forthcoming Arran Almanac. While ordering books to include on the Almanac website, he saw the potential to turn the room into an actual shop, and his aim he says, “Is to have every book on Arran that is in print”.

Some of the local books you can find there are the Corrie’s Capers series from children’s author, Alison Page, of Lamlash, John Inglis’ Finvola, of High Corrie, and Arran Travels, Treasures and Tales by Ian McMurdo, of Kildonan. The collection Snow and Rumours of Snow from Holy Isle-based poet Timo Raunela, has also just arrived in stock.
In November, the Wee Bookshop will be taking part in the Shop Arran Christmas weekend and will be open on SATURDAY 19th AND SUNDAY 20th. Tony is also opening on the evening of Friday 18th so for those of you lucky enough to have tickets for the Arran Supper Club that night in the village hall, you will be able to pop into the Bookshop to do a spot of Christmas shopping too.
Tony will continue to open over the winter months – phone first or email to check his hours. And the books will also be available from the Arran Almanac website, coming soon. www.arranalmanac.com
