Build a Bird Box

Bird Box Bonanza Thursday 13th April 2023, 1.30 – 4.30

Ranger Centre, Brodick Country Park, Isle of Arran

Come and build your very own Bird Box to take away and put up in your own garden or green space and help our garden birds this spring

Easter is a time when many of our garden birds will be thinking about nest building and laying their eggs. Come to our bird box bonanza and learn about our garden birds whilst building your very own bird box to help them in their efforts. This event is a drop-in session open to all ages; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Each ticket buys you one Bird Box kit but you can buy as many kits per family group as you like. Pop along anytime during 13:30 – 16:00 (event will wrap up at 16:30) and the Rangers will be on hand to help you with assembling and decorating your very own bird box. You can then take these away and put them up in your own garden or green space.

Meanwhile on April 1st the Brodick Castle gardens, play park, shop and cafe will reopen, but the castle will be closed for a while longer as a conservation project is underway. Here is a message from the NTS on the Castle Facebook page

We’ve embarked on a nine-month conservation project to protect Brodick Castle for future generations. We’ve mapped out a programme of building work on the fabric of the building to help it withstand the effects of time, rain and climate change.

The skilled and specialist restoration work will include roofing repairs, overhauling windows, repair of stonework and repointing, and improvements to leadwork, guttering and drainage. Some paths in the gardens will be closed to visitors while the work is ongoing, but we are working closely with our building contractors to minimise disruption.

Sally Gandon, Operations Manager for Brodick Castle, said: ‘With much of the work on the castle taking place at high level, even putting up the scaffolding has been a major task. But we’re excited that it’s now in place so we can start on our conservation work, ensuring that the local community and Arran’s visitors can enjoy this magnificent island castle, and its exceptional collections, far into the future.’

Sally continued: ‘All of us at Brodick are excited to reopen the doors of the castle later this season, and to welcome back the local community and visitors. We’ll update exact timings on our website, so keep an eye out for details!’
