COAST events in April

The team at COAST have been busy getting the Discovery Centre ready to open its doors for the 1st April, just in time for the Easter break. They are looking forward to another season of shore scrambling, snorkelling, diving, wildlife watching and discovering the amazing life just below the surface. And to start the season off there are two events planned in April with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust:

Discover Whales and Dolphins talk

Friday April 14th, 7- 8pm, at the COAST Discovery Centre (with HWDT)

Join us to discover whales, dolphins, porpoises and find out about the wondrous creatures in our local seas! We invite you to a bespoke session led by our community engagement officer who will share local expertise, fun facts, and be your guide to Scotland’s sealife.

At this interactive talk in COAST Discovery Centre you will get an exclusive introduction to Scottish whales and dolphins, as well as find out more about the marine conservation efforts of the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust.

We will take a closer look at these wondrous creatures, and offer practical advice on how to identify which species you have spotted, and some top tips for going whale watching. We will also provide an introduction to Whale Track, our community of citizen scientists, so that you can become a citizen scientist yourself and help us monitor our seas!

Guided Wildlife Walk and Watch

Sunday April 16th, 2 -4 pm, Clauchlands Point (with HWDT)

Do you want to learn how to spot whales and dolphins from our shores? Join the Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust and Arran COAST for an afternoon of sea-gazing. Led by our expert team, you will explore the stunning natural environment, and learn top tips for spotting amazing marine life.

Meeting at Clauchlands car park you will be met by HWDT’s and COAST’s friendly and informative guides. We will then take a gentle and relaxing walk to the point. You will find out about local history, explore this beautiful landscape and find out more about the wildlife that can be spotted around Arran.

Along the way we will be on the look out for some of the incredible wildlife that can be spotted. At the headland we will set up with binoculars to see what we can see out at sea. With stunning views across the designated ‘no take zone’ this is a fantastic vantage.
