Support gathers momentum for the restoration of Brodick Tennis Courts

Funding is potentially available from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Tennis Foundation and UK Government through their Park Renovation Project to renovate local park tennis courts. This investment (a total of £30 million) aims to bring thousands of existing park tennis courts in poor or unplayable condition back to life by resurfacing them for the benefit of local communities. By doing this, the LTA hopes to grow tennis at a grass roots level by ensuring that everyone has access to local courts, thus providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to pick up a racket, get active and enjoy playing tennis.

In addition to renovating the courts, the Project also provides funding for a keyless gate entry system, an online booking system and free sessions where equipment is provided to ensure tennis is accessible to all.

To date, ~£2.5 million has been spent across Scotland as part of this Project to renovate local courts but so far North Ayrshire has not benefitted. A local campaign, led by Maggie Carson to request some of this funding for the tennis courts in Brodick has gained widespread support from local businesses, the Brodick Improvement Committee, Arran’s only local Councillor, the island’s Active Schools Co-ordinator, parents, teachers and many other individuals who have expressed their wish to see the courts restored and used for tennis.
