Things to do In the outdoors

Marvellous Moths Morning, NTS Arran Ranger Service, Brodick Country Park                                                                                                                    Thursday 4th July, 10 am

Come along to this family fun moth morning to discover and explore the amazing world of moths to find out which of these three statements are true! We will be looking at moth traps set up the night before, followed by how to make your garden moth friendly and other fun moth themed activities to show these are not just boring butterflies. This activity is aimed at ages 5-11 but suitable for all the family, all ages welcome!

Please also note that this event does not cover the entrance fee to Brodick Country Park, when you arrive on the day please pay entrance fees on arrival before making your way up to the ranger centre. NTS & NT members can access our properties for free (you will be able to join on the day).

Plane wrecks mountain walk, NTS Arran Ranger Service                                                                                                                                                        Tuesday 16th July, 9 am – 5pm

Head off the beaten track to visit the wreckage of two of the aeroplanes that sadly crashed in the Arran mountains during WW2.
This walk mostly follows the route of the classic Three Beinns horseshoe, however, it misses out the summit of Beinn Nuis but instead takes in the atmospheric corrie below the impressive east face of the mountain. The walk will be guided by two rangers from the Goatfell & Brodick Country Park ranger service, who look after this area of the Arran mountains (incl. a qualified Mountain Leader).

Distance: 14.5km
Ascent & descent: 920m
Terrain: Head for heights required – ridges and gullies with steep drops. Steep ascents and descents on rough hill paths and rough, boggy, pathless moorland. Hands-on clambering, steep sections with loose rock underfoot; river crossing.

Gaelic Landscape Walk – North Arran, Arran Geopark                                                                                                                                                              Friday 12th July, 9am

Distance: 12 km / 7.5 miles, Approx. duration: 7 hours

Terrain: rough hill and coastal paths, with initial steep ascent then descent over hill, and later a 250m-long section of clambering over sometimes slippery boulders – sure-footedness and good balance required

Essential kit: waterproof jacket and trousers, stout hill walking boots, spare layers, hat and gloves, any personal medication, and lunch and a drink

Holy Isle Kayak Geology Tour, Otter’s Tail Arran and Arran Geopark                                                                                                                                    Thursday 11th July, 9.30

Geology kayak trip to Holy Isle on Thursday the 11th of July. We are proud to be once more working with Malcolm Wilkinson from Arran Geopark. We will have a short classroom session and then paddle around Holy Isle stopping of at points of interest on the way round. Suitable for anyone interested in finding out more about geology, no experience required.

Summer Farm Day

The 14th of July sees the return of ‘Summer Farm Day’ at Bellevue Farm! The day runs from 11am until 2pm with something for all the family to enjoy. Inside the weatherproof barn there will be a farmers’ market where locally produced food and crafts are on sale. There is also space and time to relax and enjoy freshly prepared hot food from the 3 local food stands.

Sho-Time Summer Camp, Brodick Hall                                                                                                                                                                                    Monday 8th – Wednesday 10th July, 9.30am – 3pm.

Roald Dahl inspired performing arts camp is packed with drama, dancing, games and crafts. At Sho-Time they bring the expressive arts to life with Game-Time, Explore-Time, Move-Time and Create-Time. Ages 4 – 12 years.

Monday 8th July – Matilda, Tuesday 9th July – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wednesday 10th July – The BFG

Corrie Film Club, Corrie and Sannox Village Hall                                                                                                                                                                        Sunday 14th July 7.30 pm

Anatomy of a Fall (French: Anatomie d’une chute) is a 2023 French legal drama film, directed by Justine Triet from a screenplay she co-wrote with Arthur Harari. It stars Sandra Hüller as a writer trying to prove her innocence in her husband’s death.
