Woodland Crofting on Arran


News from The Arran Pioneer Project about Dùthchas Arainn,  a crofting organisation they are involved in on Arran:

Together with colleagues at Drumadoon, we have set up a new Community Benefit Society with the aim of natural conservation and protection of our island heritage, as well as the sustainability and future resilience of our community.

Among other aims, we would plan to develop low impact, sustainable and environmentally friendly ‘green’ homes for primary sector workers on the island, with an emphasis on affordability, using local materials and vernacular Arran design. This would make it possible for people to come and live and work on Arran and undertake a range of work connected to the land, including looking after our woodland and – of course – growing even more food for our community.

The new organisation is called Dùthchas Arainn CBS and you can visit the website below for more details, sign up to our mailing list and become a member: https://duthchas.scot/. This is inspired by the work of the HiFar initiative of 2007-2011, and tying in with the other aims detailed on the website.

We would encourage anyone interested in delivering solutions to the housing crisis and various other crises that our community currently faces to become a member
