Golf on Arran
The Voice has just published Golf on Arran, written by James Henderson who has been involved in the development of the game here on the island for over forty years. The book begins with the history of golf in Scotland, and then considers the reasons for its introduction to Arran not happening until 1889, when a group of Lamlash businessmen set about establishing a course in the village. Jim describes the subsequent development of Lamlash Golf Club, including the important part played by the Royal Navy!
He then explores the fascinating stories of the other six clubs on the island, at Shiskine, Corrie, Whiting Bay, Brodick, Lochranza and Machrie, and follows that by describing the courses that once existed but no longer do, such as those at Kildonan and Corriecravie.
The fifty page book is illustrated with historic black and white photographs throughout, and is sure to be of great interest to everyone associated with golf here and all those who visit Arran to play on its golf courses. Golf on Arran is available to buy at most of the island’s golf clubs and other outlets.
