The Hedgehog

The hedgehog that you pointed out with your fierce
glowing eyes, ‘Look how all rolled-up he
waits.’ That I never saw,

like the dead in their deserted world he lives
outside of me. How else do you explain
now that it’s colder and he
asleep as far as a I know, that I hear him
rasping over the tiles, chirping and growling
behind the back door, every
restless night.
